There's no Hip Hop song in the top 50 of the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time in over 35 years.
Hip-Hop is said to have began in the early 1970's in New York although rapping, breakdancing, DJ'ing and Graffiti art (the 4 elements of Hip-Hop) are all older. Rap music grew to be the biggest genre in the world, influencing artists all over the globe.

The internet has a role to play in Hip-Hop's decline. It's good that it gives many people opportunities but it opened the door for trash music makers. The market is saturated with low quality so it's hard to discover the good artists.
The music of today sounds the same. Artists had different styles, now it's the same thing from artist to artist.
